Subscription Series

The Subscription Series A will take the audience through the history of music as well as various genres, from Beethoven’s symphonies to Dvořák and Janáček’s opera The Cunning Little Vixen. True experts will guide you on your journey: Czech Philharmonic Chief Conductor Semyon Bychkov, British conducting legend Sir John Eliot Gardiner, regular guest conductor in the Rudolfinum Manfred Honeck and BBC Symphony Orchestra Chief Conductor Sakari Oramo.

In the Subscription Series B, you will hear Bohuslav Martinů’s opera Ariane in concert, the world première of piano concerto by Thomas Larcher performed by Kirill Gerstein, two of Antonín Dvořák’s symphonies, Mahler’s First as well as a colourful mix of other orchestral works and concertos for solo instruments. Among the conductors are Semyon Bychkov, Jakub Hrůša and Tomáš Netopil.

The Subscription Series C will open with a concert celebrating the 250th anniversary of the birth of Ludwig van Beethoven, the second night will include the world première of a composition for two trombones by Czech composer Miloš Štědroň, the third evening will introduce works by less well known composers Jan Novák and Erich Wolfgang Korngold. The series will conclude with Chief Conductor Semyon Bychkov conducting A German Requiem by Johannes Brahms.

We also have our traditional special concerts in the 125th season – the Opening Concert and three concerts on the New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day – but we are adding new ones. These are two Concerts for Freedom and Democracy and two Special Christmas Concerts. The traditional season finale will be the Open Air Concert on the Hradčany Square in Prague.

In the 125th season, we will offer you nine of the very popular public dress rehearsals. One of the Czech Philharmonic musicians will do a short introduction before each dress rehearsal which is then completely in the hands of the conductors. They may stop the music at any point and give feedback to the musicians or rehearse selected parts repeatedly.

The 125th season will only have four of the popular Advent concerts held in the Rudolfinum’s Suk Hall on Advent Sundays at 3 pm. But their exciting programmes and performers will certainly offer you the best of the chamber ensembles of Czech Philharmonic musicians and their guests.

For the sixth time, the Czech Philharmonic will attune with the National Theatre in a joint subscription series. The first Czech orchestra will open its 125th season with music by Dmitri Shostakovich and Gustav Mahler. The National Theatre will see the return of Janáček’s Káťa Kabanová and a new production of Wagner’s Tristan and Isolde.
