Special Concerts

Joining chief conductor Semyon Bychkov for the opening concerts for a second time is the phenomenal pianist Daniil Trifonov, this time in the role of the season’s artist-in-residence. Petr Popelka will make his debut for our traditional Velvet Revolution Concerts, and Tomáš Netopil will lead four performances on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

At our traditional opening concerts, Dvořák’s Piano Concerto will be heard to commemorate the Year of Czech Music, followed by Hector Berlioz’s iconic Symphonie fantastique, which is seldom played here. The celebration of Czech music will continue both by the engaging of Czech artists and the performing of Czech repertoire in two more special projects: Petr Popelka will join forces with with violinist Josef Špaček and violist Antoine Tamestit, and Tomáš Netopil and Josef Špaček have invited the cellist Ivan Vokáč. In accordance with tradition, Marek Eben will be the moderator for the New Year’s Day concerts. And let us not forget the concluding Open Air Concert on Hradčany Square dedicated to the memory of Jiří Bělohlávek.
